Tournament Registration Options – if we don’t end up with adequate QT hosts
For the first time in our 10 year history as the FLL Partner, we are looking at the real prospect of not having enough FLL Qualifier host sites and organizers for every team to have an option to compete at a QT. We have been working with FIRST HQ on this and are investigating options.
This is a just working list of what we are talking through.
1. School-affiliated teams will be limited to 1 team going to a QT unless they are hosting
2. Hold a lottery of teams within each city that will be given the opportunity to attend a QT based on capacity of closest QT (for example in the EB – Fremont has 44 teams but currently only a single 12 team QT, so 27% of the teams will be selected within Fremont)
3. Admit rookies, youth org teams, 1 team from each public school and fill remaining slots as a lottery for private school and community-based teams
In all cases, if an organization or school is hosting, we would admit all of their teams to that QT.
Once we have final numbers and which sites that have come forward by the end of September, we will publish how we will decide which teams get the option to compete in an official QT.
We are open to other suggestions!
None of this is pleasant – but, we had over a dozen of last year’s QT hosts/organizers decide not to host this year and only a handful of new or alternate sites contact us. We believe we are 10 to 12 QTs below what we need to meet the needs of our region.
