BCM FLL Scrimmage
Update 10/24: There is space for only 1 more team. And we need the team to bring their table, mat and mission model to the scrimmage
——————–
BCM Robotics is now accepting applications for the FLL Scrimmage on Saturday, Oct 26. The Scrimmage will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Bayshore Christian Ministries,1001 Beech St, East Palo Alto, CA (different location than last year).
The scrimmage is a practice opportunity for the qualifying tournaments in November. We will be conducting matches under tournament conditions – matches will run for 2 1/2 minutes and will be scored by referees according to FLL rules. We’ll have pit tables set up for the scrimmage, and we will have limited practice FLL fields available for testing your robot between official matches. You’ll have the chance to run your robot on different fields and to see how other teams approach the missions. Don’t worry if you can only attempt a couple missions or your missions don’t work. Lots of teams will be like that, and your robot’s scrimmage scores do not count towards the awards given at the November tournament. Also, there is no judging of robot design, the research project, or core values at the scrimmage. Teams are queued for scrimmage matches based on a first-come first-served basis. We’ll keep a running list of teams that want to run a competition match. We take the first two teams from the list, have them compete in a match, and then continue through the list. After a team completes a match, the team can sign up for another match. We expect to have enough time for teams to run at least 7-8 matches.
To apply for a slot, please fill out the 2019 Scrimmage Registration Form by October 14. It has additional information about participating in the scrimmage including volunteer requirements.
Our capacity is limited to 10 teams right now. If more teams apply, then BCM Robotics will choose teams with a preference for teams from East Palo Alto area with an additional preference for rookie teams. We also may open additional slots. Teams with fewer than four members may not be accepted or may be asked to share a spot with another small team as we want to give the scrimmage experience to more kids. All teams must provide volunteers or challenge tables and field sets in order to participate. We will let teams know by October 15 if they have a spot at the scrimmage. We will also have a waiting list in case selected teams decide not to participate.
There will be a $30 registration fee for the scrimmage, to cover expenses of running the BCM Robotics organization and events. Payments are due October 22. Please make the check payable to ‘BCM Robotics’ with ‘scrimmage payment’ in the memo section and mail your $30 registration fee to BCM, c/o Waniya Bryant, 1001 Beech St, East Palo Alto, CA 94303.
